Reluctant readers are encouraged to read a novel when various strategies are used to progress through the chapters. Reading along or following along in the text fosters improved reading skills.

Commercial recording through libraries and other sources are available. Because Purple Heart is a new teen novel, I teachers and students can record sections for class room use. Our school uses software called Audacity. We
converted the raw files into .wma and mp3 formats for playback on computers and other devices. Apps are available to
.mp3 and .wmv files on iOS devices.
